It's not that hard to find the reason why

I keep reading this quote that says, “The hardest thing about “everything happens for a reason,” is finding the reason.”

Except it usually isn’t

In fact, it can be alarmingly simple.

But before I reveal how, let me give you an example from my own life.  Eighteen years ago, I came home to discover that my home

had been burglarized. When I walked in the door, the sight horrified me. Strewn all over the place were my and my kids’ books and clothes. Drawers were pulled out and lay topsy-turvy on the floor. Our computers, stereos, phones, and televisions were gone. So were all our CDs. Plus my credit cards, which I kept in my top drawer, were missing.

The instance I looked at the mess my life had turned into, I realized that something I’d been thinking over and over for the last couple of months came true. Because my future husband and I were planning to move in together, I’d been fretting about what I was going to do with all my stuff, since our combined lives wouldn’t need all these televisions and computers, etc. Voila! I walked into my house, and my problem was solved. Not exactly as I’d wanted it, though. And my home owners insurance took care of most of it. And the credit cards, that were taken? Sure they were used, but I never got charged.

Sounds alright, doesn’t it?

Wrong.

The event threw me down into a spiral of depression. I wished I could have just sold or given away our excess stuff.  Instead I was invaded. Day after day, I hated how I vulnerable, blue, and lethargic I felt. I needed to get out of my funk.

To do so, I had to figure out why I was burglarized.

So I grabbed my journal, because I know if I don’t write my processings down, I’ll get sidetracked. At the top of the page, I described how I felt in that moment. I wrote, “sad, depressed, angry.”

Then I wrote one of my favorite dig-down-deep sentence starts: I fear. . . .

An eye-opening list issued forth from my pen to the paper. I feared having my boundaries crossed. I feared people would take things from me. I feared being treated unfairly.

This list was eye-opening because I know that if I fear something, it’s because I believe something on some level.

And if I believe it, it will show up in my life. You know Mike Dooley’s quote, “Thoughts become things.” Beliefs are thoughts. They become things.

And that explains why my fears that my boundaries would be crossed, that people would take what was mine, and that I would be treated unfairly turned into my home being burglarized.

If you’ve read my book, The Happiness Path, you know that discovering the reasons behind what happened to me is just the first step. The next steps focus on transforming the beliefs, so new and better things happen in my future. After all, I’m going to have to change my past to change my future.

The same goes for you!

“ Realizing that all life is energy, I felt there had to be a tangible connection between the physical world we move around in, and the inner world of intent. I knew that I was already creating my experiences, but I lacked the understanding which would allow me to create them consciously. The Happiness Path provides you that understanding. It shows you the Creative Process. Thank you Joanne!” A. Williamson
